Chi-A

Each year many high school seniors will experience a rite of passage into collegiate life familiar to many of us. This rite of passage will mark a significant change in these young people's lives.

Almost every Freshman I've talked to tells me about a moment that first day or night after move-in. Mom and Dad are gone and they're sitting alone in their dorm room and overwhelmed with, "What am I doing here?", "Am I going to make it?", "What's next?".

This is one reason Chi-Alpha Campus Ministries exists. It's our desire to be a resource to students, parents and pastors as their youth transition to life as college students.

Most Chi Alpha leaders have been Freshmen themselves so they understand the unique challenges that young people face during their "college days," and we're especially sensitive to the transitional challenges of Freshmen.  However, we're not into simply babysitting Christians on campus. We're passionate about equipping and mobilizing them to be missionaries to their dorms and lecture halls and then to the world!

We have found that the students who transition to campus most effectively had pastors, parents, or friends who went the extra mile of personally connecting them with campus ministries and local churches during the summer before move-in. They not only gave the students info about campus ministries and churches, they also sent that student's contact information to campus ministries and churches so they could take the initiative in contacting the student.

If you have students heading to campuses in Raleigh, Chapel Hill, or Greenville, would you contact us and let us send them information about our ministries and events? You can send information to me, Brian Hargett, and I will forward it on to the appropriate contacts. You can also visit www.liveabove.com to find quality campus ministries at almost any school in the country. There's even a place to submit information so that these ministries can contact the student directly. If there is any other way that we can assist you in ministering to college students, please let us know.
